Join the Newman Community as it travels to southern Virginia for a volunteer experience that just might change your life! From March1-7 LHU volunteers will participate in a Collegiate Challenge with Habitat for Humanity. We'll travel to Danville, Virginia where the weather warm your winter-weary bones and the Southern hospitality will warm your heart. Our group will help build affordable houses for families who could not otherwise afford a home of their own.
Got
Questions?
1. What's Habitat for Humanity? Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry. It seeks to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from the world, and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action. Habitat has built more than 225,000 houses around the world, providing more than 1 million people in more than 3,000 communities with safe, decent, affordable shelter.
2. I've never used a hammer before. Can I still participate? Yes! There's no building experience necessary - you'll learn on the job!
3. What about food and lodging? The local Habitat affiliate house us in a local church. Many meals will be provided. Get ready for some Southern hospitality!
4. What
is the cost? The local Habitat Affiliate has asked participants
to contribute $100 per person. The Newman Community is asking each participant
to make a deposit of $75. We'll work together as a team to
raise the rest of
the money.
5.
How many LHU students can participate? The LHU Newman Community
has reserved 6 spaces for students.
6. How do I find out more? An informational meeting will be scheduled early during the Spring Semester. In the meantime, please contact Jeff Schaffer at jschaffe@lhup.edu if you are interested. We'll send you further information and registration materials as they become available.
7. How do I sign up? Registration packets will be available at the Newman Center early next semester.
